Fuel Nozzle Optimization for ExxonMobil via Additive Manufacturing

This project focuses on optimizing the fuel nozzle for gas turbine applications using additive manufacturing. The redesign process includes refining the nozzle geometry to improve manufacturability and performance.

Key improvements include:

  • Material Selection: HX alloy, with Inconel suggested for sample printing.

  • Optimized Design: Enhanced support structures for overhangs, reducing print failures.

  • Precision Enhancements: Smaller hole sizes, with post-processing via machining and drilling to ensure exact dimensions.

  • Flow Path Optimization: Improved internal flow design for better efficiency.

  • Manufactured using the EOS M290 machine, featuring a 400W Yb-fiber laser, 100-micron focus diameter, and a build volume of 250mm x 250mm x 325mm.

This optimization ensures better performance, reduced material waste, and enhanced production efficiency for gas turbine components.
